Orphan

Scary psychological horror, in which a couple's adoption plans don't quite work out…...

History is the lies of the victors coupled with the delusions of the defeated. It is an imagined certainty created at the point where the imperfection of memory meets the inadequacy of documentation.

Divergent 10/10

Well crafted dystopian set in Chicago....

caught my attention, and interest from beginning to end.

The Woman in Black

Good horror, despite its dubious religious ending (not taken from the book)

The Devil's Own 9.0/10

It has Brad Pitt and Harrison Ford in it.

Also has a few themes involving the IRA and Northern Ireland.

Safe 4.7/10

A rather stupid and pointless action film

Wallander (BBC): Faceless Killers 9.8/10

Wallander (BBC): The Man who smiled 9.7/10

Wallander (BBC): The Fifth Woman 9.5/10

Overall of Wallander Series 2: 9.6/10

Five Children and It.

Horrible film full of screechy kids.

I read the book as a wee thing and loved it

I watched Boondock Saints I & II not in my sober mind and gave them 9/10. I thought I'd redo sober.

Your assumptions are your windows on the world. Scrub them off every once in awhile, or the light won't come in (Alan Alda).

Series 7 The Contenders: 7/10 (2001)

Another reality show of death, this time set in modern-day Connecticut rather than a dsytopian future. The main character is a pregnant woman who if she wins gains freedom (she's done the show a few times before and only needs to do one more run to win).

Surprise surprise she gives birth, but in the home of one of the other Contendors who just happens to be a nurse. The nurse, who earlier in the film proves on two occasions that she's unstable, even coming across as a secondary antagonist in my eyes (first antagonist obviously being the show)...So letting the protagonist live seemed unlikely (especially as she sees her as the scum of the Earth)

For this ridiculous and cliche' scene (and its lead up) the film loses half a mark, especially in a film that I expected better from (this was near the climax)

But maybe I'm being unfair, this was over a decade ago and the film was on a low budget. Its surprisingly well-acted (no big names), its timing (minus the scene I discussed above) is good, with it's dark humor casting shadows over the enjoyment and popularity of today's reality-TV shows.

EDIT- Also, it has a good twist ending.
