^ A good movie, if memory serves?

(Tom Cruise is actually too short to be a pilot in the US Air Force)

History is the lies of the victors coupled with the delusions of the defeated. It is an imagined certainty created at the point where the imperfection of memory meets the inadequacy of documentation.

It is a good movie, it's just if you're put off by 80s cheese (thankfully, I am not) it's probably best avoided.

Diary of the Dead

Good zombie movie by the master of the genre, George Romero

Robocop (original)

A lot of 80s cheese but at the same time grittiness. It's like part of it wants to be a cheesy cop superhero movie (it contains all the elements of one) and the other a gritty satire of modern America (well, 1980s America)

The soundtrack is very good.

Savages Crossing

Weak Australian siege movie.

Night of the Hunter.

High on tension and atmosphere, but low on quality, this is something of an over-rated 'classic'. The acting of the little girl, who bears an unsettling resemblance to a Tombliboo, is dreadful, and Shelley Winters is hardly better. Robert Mitchum and Lilian Gish, unsurprisingly, steal the show as far as performances go. Charles Laughton seems to have dedicated so much time to sets and to the conception of a superb river-journey sequence (and to collaborating on Walter Schumann's score) that he forgot to direct the actors, resulting in a generally unconvincing tone. Stilted, cliched and, even by the standards of the mid-50s, hopelessly old-fashioned, this is a wasted opportunity that would have benefited from a younger director (or simply Alfred Hitchcock).

Air Force One

It's a 90s movie but is as over the top as an 80s action movie. Gary Oldman makes a pretty good (while stereotypical) villain, able to maintain a Russian accent for the entire movie. Harrison Ford makes a good President, too. I think only one or two of the main characters had bad performances.

Casablanca.

Somehow I had managed to avoid seeing this movie until yesterday.

It's one of those movies that people will say they loved out of fear of being branded a philistine, even if they hated it.

To be honest it was a great movie. So many lines that became part of popular culture, even stuff that nobody in the movie actually said (play it again sam).

I especially loved the moral ambiguity. The hero of the movie, Rick, was a self-centred a**hole for much of the movie. The only "good" character in the movie without that ambiguity was Victor Laszlo.

10/10. It's difficult to think of a better movie.

Van Helsing.

This movie gave me nightmares. I dreamt that, in the future, all movies might be as bad as this.

Van Drivel.

Utter, utter Van Drivel.

The Raven

A fan of Edgar Allen Poe tests the author's ingenuity by carrying out a series of crimes (including the abduction of Poe's fiancee) based on Poe's own stories.

Average thriller with some scary moments. Anachronistic use of 'okay' grates.
