An Affair to Remember

Weak romance, inexplicably regarded as a classic.

You would need a heart of stone to watch this film without laughing.

History is the lies of the victors coupled with the delusions of the defeated. It is an imagined certainty created at the point where the imperfection of memory meets the inadequacy of documentation.

Child 44

Supposedly a thriller.

Far from thrilling.

Rewatched Blade Runner 2049 after watching several documentaries about it on YouTube. Now that I have a better understanding of the film's themes, and of the enormous amount of work and artistry that went into building its world (the first time I watched it I had no idea that so many of the VFX were done in camera - probably serves me right for waiting for the DVD release and then watching it on my laptop lol), it's beginning to grow on me.

There are no atheists when the toilet water is rising.

Arachnophobia

I haven't seen it since I was a kid, so I didn't remember much from it. There's a lot of really inaccurate science in it (as with most movies that reference science), but Steven Spielberg has a way of making you accept the patently ridiculous with enthusiasm. Plus John Goodman completely owned his role as the exterminator. Fun movie.

The Haunting in Connecticut 2

The fact that this is set in Georgia should start the alarm bells ringing from the outset.

Average horror enlivened by an engaging performance from Emily Alyn Lind as an eight-year old girl who can see and talk to ghosts.

Vault of Horror

70s British horror featuring five short stories (not actually from the "Vault of Horror" magazine, but from "Tales from the Crypt").

Entertaining if unexceptional and frequently corny.

The Monkey's Paw

Unimpressive horror about an enchanted monkey paw that can grant people's wishes, but in doing so causes the destruction of the subject of the wish.

Cloverfield

Disgusting and exploitative 9/11 porn. Unremittingly awful.
