RE: Random Facts
shop vacs are useful for one thing, cleaning up liquid messes that don't have the words "vomit or blood" in them.

The word "Pennsylvania" is mis-spelled on the Liberty Bell.

History is the lies of the victors coupled with the delusions of the defeated. It is an imagined certainty created at the point where the imperfection of memory meets the inadequacy of documentation.

RE: Random Facts
In the mid-30s, Joseph Goebbels ran a photo-competition across Germany to find the most beautiful aryan baby. The wining picture was then exploited relentlessly as propaganda to encourage the enthusiastic breeding of a master-race.

It later transpired that the baby in the winning picture was, in fact, Jewish.

US president James Garfield could write in Latin with one hand while writing the same thing in Greek with the other hand.

RE: Random Facts
Despite having twice been elected US President, Abraham Lincoln never received a single presidential vote in nine states. Not just Electoral College votes, either; not a single person ever voted for him to be President in any of those states.

(For the record, those states were Virginia, Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Arkansas, and Texas.)

History is the lies of the victors coupled with the delusions of the defeated. It is an imagined certainty created at the point where the imperfection of memory meets the inadequacy of documentation.

RE: Random Facts
^ Correction - eight states. He did receive votes in Virginia in 1860, although all but 97 of those votes were in the part that, by 1864, had become West Virginia. Even in 1860, he received no votes at all in 121 of the state's 145 counties, just one vote in each of three other counties, and ten or fewer in nine counties.

In 1864, of course, Virginia did not participate in the election, so he received no votes at all the time round.

The stone towers at either end of Sydney Harbour Bridge have no constructional purpose.
