I didn't cheer for Bin Laden's death either. There's no question that he was a bad person and the world is probably better off without him. It's just that cheering for anyone's death makes me feel like less of a human being.

Not to mention that some places in the world have too many double standards.

Even if someone is a bad person and "deserves" for bad things to happen to them, it lowers us to their level when we assassinate people in cold blood or when we revel in their death.

That's my position on it exactly.

What do you mean by "we"? Which army of assassins are you in charge of?

Also, laughing at the death of some scumbag ISIS executioner doesn't make me as bad as him.

I don't regret feeling satisfaction of the deaths of certain people. I think everyone has at least one person they'd rather have dead. And if the person was a scumbag that didn't deserve any respect from you then why respect them after they died? What's the point of pretending to feel bad if you don't?

Helga: So I'm not Kate Moss. Big deal.
Milo: Kate Moss isn't stuck in a sewer.
Helga: Gee I don't know. When you think about it is there no sewer BIGGER than the world of professional modelling?

I generally have no more or less respect for people after they die than I do before, but that doesn't mean I'm going to celebrate their death. I simply don't pretend to feel bad about it and get on with my life.

(1) Pedant Tongue It's "we" as in "we, the members of the coalition of the willing". It's "we" as citizens of the countries who support those actions, whether you or I as individuals do or do not.

(2) Many of us like to believe that our enemies are terrible people and that they deserve to die. ISIS believes that, Al Qaeda believes that, Hezbollah believes that. And those fighting on "our" side believe that as well. Finding amusement in the deaths of those whose ideologies we don't agree with... personally I like to avoid that.

The concept of collective accountability is not helpful in this context.

So disapproving of mass beheadings, punitive amputation, throwing gay men off buildings, stoning "adulterous" women to death and murdering "infidels" and apostates is just an ideological disagreement to you? That's cold.

RE: 404: (Random Thoughts you didn't want people in real life to know about)
As far as cheering the death of Muslim terrorists, we have to remember that those Muslim terrorists would kill us in a heartbeat, and we're supposed to pretend that their deaths aren't bad?

"Some prisoners spent more than ten years buried in solitary cells the size of coffins, hearing nothing but clanging bars or footsteps in the corridors. They survived because they could talk to each other by tapping on the wall. In that way, they told of dreams, memories, and fallings in and out of love; they discussed, embraced, and fought; they shared beliefs, beauties, doubts, guilts and those questions that have no answers.
When it is genuine, when it is born of the need to speak, no one can stop the human voice. When it is denied a mouth, it speaks with the hands, the eyes, the pores, or anything at all because every single one of us has something to say to the others, something that deserves to be celebrated or forgiven by others."-Eduardo Galeano
