Zombie raccoons
Reports of zombie raccoons attacking dogs in Ohio. I used to think those trash pandas were cute. I will have to look into the yard before I let the dogs out.

I was half expecting this to be an urban myth, but it turns out to be true. Apparently the zombie behaviour is caused by distemper, which can cause brain damage in raccoons.

Distemper is nothing to ignore. Be sure to get your pets vaccinated if it's a problem in your area.

I still think raccoons are cute, but even without distemper or rabies, it's good to remember that they're wild animals and should be appreciated from a distance.

I'll inform the Quad Cities that they need to change their mascot for the Farm Team in their area. Because those Raccoons look absolutely terrifying.

^ I like the two of them in that first picture that are looking off to the sides. Maybe they saw something shiny or something.

Or maybe they're picking a fight with an alley cat.

RE: Zombie raccoons
I wish people would not leave food outside for wild animals except for bird feeders. Raccons and coyotes are around. They should not be fed since they lose fear of humans. This makes problems.

I feel sad when animals get hit by cars.

Dogs are vaccinated against distemper and rabies. I wonder if there is some type of bait that can help wild animals against these diseases? If they get infected then they are caught and destroyed so it would be better to prevent. Bats can carry rabies. Birds do not get rabies.
