A California Dream

1 part dry vermouth
2 parts sweet vermouth
4 parts tequila

History is the lies of the victors coupled with the delusions of the defeated. It is an imagined certainty created at the point where the imperfection of memory meets the inadequacy of documentation.

An Americano

No, nothing to do with coffee.

Back in the day when people had enough sense to refer to black coffee as, er, "black coffee", there was the Americano cocktail. It comes in two original varieties, sharp and sweet.

To make a sweet Americano:

2 parts sweet vermouth
2 parts soda water
1 part lime cordial

For a sharp Americano, replace the lime cordial with a splash of real lime juice

There is also a later version, the Campari Americano, in which said drink replaces the lime content.

History is the lies of the victors coupled with the delusions of the defeated. It is an imagined certainty created at the point where the imperfection of memory meets the inadequacy of documentation.

RE: What are you drinking?
An Americano refers to an espresso that's been dilluted with water, not to any generic black coffee. Drip coffee with nothing added is black coffee but it's not an Americano.

The reason why this matters is because espresso can be made to have a less bitter taste than other ways of brewing, so people who want something that tastes good with nothing added but isn't quite as strong per ounce as an espresso can be happy.

RE: What are you drinking?
Instant coffee with unsweetened soy milk. No sugar.

I avoid spoiling myself with proper coffee. It can an expensive habit.

I'm not anti-social; I'm just not user friendly.

Iced Coffee is my preferred choice though. Regular is only necessary when there isn't anything else.

A Charles (!)

Equal parts sweet vermouth and brandy, with a splash of Angostura Bitters
