Mass Effect: Paragon Lost- 4/10

Oh good, an anime-style film about my favourite videogame series. Not into anime, but into Mass Effect so I'll give it a go.

That was my first mistake.

The filmmaker only knows "bits and bobs" about the Mass Effect story and universe, he/she obviously came across a wiki on the series and obviously just skimmed it. I doubt anyone on the team has even played one of the games. The story is full of holes, you know that all of the characters are going to die (minus Vega) from the beginning if you've played the third game so there's no point in getting attached to them. Most of them aren't really that likeable anyway.

I won't get into detail about the plot holes as there are many.

Of all the characters to make a film about, why James Vega? No one cares about James Vega! Then again, maybe that's for the best as like I said the filmmaker and his/her only knows a thing or two about the Mass Effect universe. I think a film about a character I actually care about would only annoy me more. The animation is decent in some areas and pretty bad in others, for instance why do the Krogan look like dinosaurs?!

With all the holes this story is pretty much non-canon anyway so unless you're a fan of James Vega (why?) this film isn't worth watching. Wait a second, James doesn't even act in character anyway so you're just watching a guy who looks a little bit like him and sounds like him.

I'm not sure who to target this movie at then...Well, it's a bad film so probably no one. Apparently the Mass Effect Dark Horse comics are good so if you want to see more stories from this universe I suggest you read those instead. This film will anger you if you are a fan and simply waste your time if you're not a fan.
