When I saw the original Blade Runner movie I walked out thinking Deckard was a replicant. There were various hints, even in the original theatrical release, and apparently it was more blatant in the Director's Cut and the Final Cut (neither of which I've seen). Nobody else I knew who'd seen it thought he was a replicant.

If someone now was to go back and look at Blade Runner they might see it as just another one of "that style" of sci-fi movie. But when it was released it was so different from any other sci-fi movie I'd seen and a lot of other movies ended up copying its style and themes to some extent. We've got different expectations today, as well, in terms of special effects and so on. Something that seemed visually spectacular in 1982 might seem a bit ropy today.

It's a bit like Star Wars. When it came out there had never been anything like it, and it was a huge cultural phenomenon (still is, TBH). But these days I'm sure a lot of people can't see what the big deal was.
